QUESTION ANSWER

How much weight can our boxes take?

Up to a maximum of 30 kgs .

How big is a cubic metre?

Click HERE to get an idea - a cubic metre is about the size of a large fridge.

How much notice do we require to deliver our empty export boxes?

Three days ideally, and three days notice to collect the full cases when packed ready to ship.

Do I have to label the freight?

Yes. We need your full name, address and telephone number in your home country on each box, and please number your boxes.

Air or Sea - which is better value?

Sea freight minimum charge is one cubic metre (8 of our boxes, see the bottom of the page). For shipments under 120 kgs air freight could work out cheaper and quicker.

Do I need to prepare any documentation to accompany my excess luggage?

Advance Personal Effects transport staff carry a standard declaration which they will explain to you. However please keep a list of what you are packing to help complete the shippers declaration.

Can I have a discount?

We always quote special discounted rates to students.

Are there other charges I should be aware of?

Overseas agents charge for customs clearance or storage if applicable. Charges are dependent on the type of shipment. Any charges are usually minimal, contact us for more information.

Do you provide insurance and what does it cover?

Yes we do. The cover is for loss, theft or damage but not damage due to goods not being packed sufficiently for transport.

Do I need insurance cover?

This is entirely your decision. We recommend insurance cover if your goods are worth replacing.

What happens when my goods arrive at the destination airport/port?

The goods are handled by the airline or shipping lines agent. They clear the goods through customs on your behalf. You will then be given the agents name, telephone number and reference numbers before you leave the UK. This will enable you to collect the goods when you arrive in the country. If you need other services overseas this must be negotiated with the agent.

Are you able to take large items?

Our business is in Personal Effects (Clothes, Books and so on) and we can also take Microwave Ovens, Portable T.V.'s, Computer Equipment (PC's) and similar items. Large kitchen appliances, furniture etc. do not come within the sphere of operations.

If I take out insurance through you, how do I make a claim, should I need to?

When you receive the boxes from the agent at your destination, check that all of the boxes are there and that none of the boxes are damaged. If there is a problem, report this to the agent before accepting you boxes. The agent will take details of the problem and will deal with the claim on your behalf. Please contact us if you do need to make a claim.

Do you have any larger boxes?

Our boxes are of a certain size for ease of lifting and moving. If you have an item which will not fit into a box, you can combine two boxes together, but please remember they must still be small enough to go through doors, along corridors, and down stairs or in lifts.

I have a portable T.V. / Hi Fi System / Computer to send home. Can I pack it in the original box?

Yes. This is by far the best way of packing such items, especially if you still have the original polystyrene packing which came with the box. Please try to cover over any printing on the box so that the contents are not easily identifiable during shipment.
